I recently installed XP and sound worked fine. My old CD-W
was not compatible so I installed a new one, a CD-RW/DVD.
now I have no sound. I have tried all the suggestions in
the Windows help files. I need help. My new CD/DVD came
with Easy CD Creator 5 and it seems to record but there is
no sound to play CDs or even system sounds. Any
suggestions? I need help! Thank you in advance

Connie;
Not to sound flip. Are all the cables plugged in to the new
CD-RW/DVD. i.e. the one that goes to the sound card? Can you plug
headphones into the front jack on theCD-RW/DVD and hear sound then?
The digital CD playback feature of Windows XP allows a CD-ROM drive to
send its audio output directly to other digital devices (such as USB
speakers) in digital, not analog, mode. By default, digital CD playback is
turned on.
To listen to CDs over headphones or other analog devices, digital CD
playback must be turned off.
If your computer has USB speakers and no sound device, digital CD
playback must be turned on to listen to CDs.

There is no sound
Check both the Windows volume control settings and the volume control on
the speakers.
Make sure that the speakers have power and that they are turned on.
Make sure that the speakers are plugged into the correct jack (usually
green if the speakers only have one cable) on the sound card and, if
applicable, that the cables between the speakers and the subwoofer are
connected correctly.
Make sure that all cables are securely connected.
Go to Help and Support Center/type troubleshooting/ENTER/click Sound
Troubleshooter.
I hope some of this may help.
Let us know.
