no sound

my volume is not working at all. there is no sound so its not possible to
listen to music etc. i have tried everything possible..i think. last week i
installed a cd writer which unfortunatly didnt work so i put back in the
original one. could this have affected the sound. dont know much about pc,s
so any info would be a great help..cheers.
 
Hi Fiona,

I just wanted to make things clear here. You are not getting sound only
when you play music from the CD drive? Are you getting sounds when you start
the computer up or shut it down?

If its just music cd's then you most likely forgot to plug the little
sound cable in. It plugs into your cd rom and then leads to your sound card
or motherboard.

The cable looks like this but could have two black ends instead of one black
and one white. It usualy plugs in to the left of the ribbon cable if your
looking at the drive from the back.

Hi, thanks for the reply. now that you mention it there is a wire which i
didn,t connect in as wasnt sure where it went and i was advised by someone it
didn,t need plugged in. also i dont get any sound at all. even when i start
an dshut down pc. i,ll have a look and get back if this doesnt work. cheers..
