I need help getting my speakers to work! They are plug in desk top speakers.
I run Window XP and have Sound Blaster 24 Live. I've checked my volume, made
sure sound blaster is set as default and still no sound. The most I've been
able to get is static and some garbled noise. Any ideas what I do next?!

Make sure they're plugged in completely and into the correct jack on the
back of your computer.

Go into Device Manager and see if there are yellow question marks against
any components. If so, you haven't yet installed the necessary drivers.
You'd need to find out which drivers go with your hardware.

One possible option is to delete your sound driver files, then restart and
let XP reinstall them automatically.

Ok, in device manager I have a yellow question mark by an application called
Sigma Tel High Definition Audio CODEC

Any idea what this application even is? I recently had a repair man out,
computer completely crashed. I don't know if he downloaded this or not cause
I've never seen it before. Could this be interferring?

Thanks for the help!

Sigma Tech HD Audio Codec loks like an on-board sound card module.
Access the PC's CMOS / BIOS and turn off your "on-board" audio /
sound. XP does not like to have two sound card active. This can
cause problems, especially when "on-board" audio is one of the active
sound cards.

Can you tell me how to go in and change it that way?

Thank you!

When booting up, and before any Windows logo appears, you have to hit the
right key to enter the BIOS setup. Sometimes there will be a message eg "F2
for Setup" and sometimes there won't and you'll have to guess, or find your
manual, or do a google search. You could try in turn (one at a time, not
simultaneously) DEL, F2, F12.
