You checked the Volum levels with the Volum control? you said you have tried
different cords and made sure they were plugged in snugged? you said you
tried different speakers. SO speakers are definetely ruled out and so isn't
the cord. but..... are you 100% positive you have it plugged into the correct
jack? not the mike jack or the Line In but the speakers or line out?
OK! if you are sure of all of the above and have even tried Restore, which
should have defaulted back in case your driver got corrupted, then Yes! open
the computer, with a light look at the card that has the speakers plugged
into it (be sure you ahev no static build up and use No magentic screw
drivers etc. Now, examine the card and how it is plugged into the slot. Once
you feel you understand. Push on the back edge and the front edge to be sure
it is seated properly into the receptacle. You may have to loosen the screw
first to do this, I would even go so far to say, take it out and boot your
machine and then power down the computer and install the board back into the
slots and reboot the computer again. Maybe Plug N Play will pick up on it and
re install it. If you want to be sure it is down proper, Uninstall the files
for the board. Click on Start, Click on Control Panel, Click on remove
software, Now scroll down to the title of the board you have, read it to be
sure it is the Boards drivers and not some extra software, highlight it, and
click to uninstall. Turn OFF the compiuter, remove the board, boot and ignore
and power down again. Install the board, have the CD handy, that came with
the board/computer and re boot and follow instructions. This will reinstall
the drivers.
This is the complete way and if the board is not fried which could be the
case, should get you back up and working. Before doing this, if you are
uncertain or not comfortable, make sure boarded is seated first and then if
all else has failed do the removeal and the re-install. good luck
