I have a strange problem with my sound. I have a case with a top mounted firewire, USB, speaker and audio port (like this http://www.barrys-rigs-n-reviews.com/reviews/2004/hardware/va3000/images/tttsunami013.jpg). A few days ago I opened the flap to plug in my headphones and it made a strange crackling noise. A while later I realized my sound wasn’t working and when I checked my audio device it said no audio device detected. Any idea what the problem is?

The motherboard has a build in sound card.

Thanks

I tried to "add new hardware" but it didnt detect any sound device. I think the motherboard might be damaged in some way, what do u think?

if it cant 'find' it then the chip may have died, does it work if you use the port on the back ?

how old is this? Surely if the chip has gone to the chip heaven in the sky, you should get a replacement?

It’s only a few months old, however I am not that keen on getting a replacement. A while ago my chip fan died and it was a hassle trying to get asus to send me another one. I think it might be easier to buy a cheap sound card.
