i dont have any sound...my computer says theres a problem with my device and
it needs to be reinstalled, how do i do this, i bought the computer of
someone, but dont speak to them.please help.

The device is your soundcard. Did the PC come with any disks? One of them
may be a utility disk check there. Another answer is to find out the
manufacturer
and go to their website to download the drivers for the soundcard. To get the
manufacturers brand name, you can either open the PC case and read it or go
here: Start>Control Panel>System>Hardware tab>Device Manager button and
scroll down to Sounds, etc.
BTW: You may want to start speaking to the person you purchased it from to
get more info.

this did not work as my device says it is not installed....how do i install
without ne cds or knowing the manufacturer...? please help....pc did not come
with discs no...ive just recenty put windwos xp on it it had windows 98 when
i got it the make of it is VM8000 RM! were is the pc case?
thank claire

The VM8000 RM is a Samsung product.
1. To find the soundcard, look on the back of the PC (probably sitting on
the floor), it is where you plug in your speakers and maybe a microphone. It
is held in your case on the motherboard by one screw. You can open the case
and possibly read the name/brand on the card. Then you can go to the website
of the manufacturer and download the drivers for they are free.
2. The next question I have is: Do you have a jack on the back of the PC
where you can plug in your speakers? If not, then you do not have a
soundcard and you'll need to buy one. You can go to eBay and bid on one or
your local Circuit City or Best Buy. They run from $10 to over $200, a
decent one runs about $40.
