Hi
when I capture video from a camcorder I get no audio but
it plays through the camcorder. I'm running XP pro, I've
also renamed some file like poppajohn mentioed in his
website but the never help. Any ideas ?

thanks

Hi DaveM,

What connections exist between Camcorder and your computer....and what
device (card or external unit) are you using to capture with. While we are
at it, you might as well tell us a bit about both camera and computer.

Dave,

It's normal during capture to hear the audio at the camera but not on the
computer. But the audio should then be in your captured video file.

ok my camcorder is a canon zr70 and I'm uploading through a S video cable my capture card is an ATI on in wonder. I hope thats all ya need, if not I'll tell ya somemore. I was reading some other posts about recording at 12 or 16 bits and I check my cam and it was 12bits if that makes a difference.

Hi there,

Just had a brief look at your camera...Its DV.and therefore using a USB
port is a no no.....the USB port is for transferring still images (It has a
very low data rate) and there is a chance there is no audio feed anyway.

Your camera has the ability (like my canon) to use a Firewire card and
cable (mine came with them)....If you do not have these items already I
suggest that you go to local store and purchase...they are not very dear.
If you are unhappy fitting the card to your computer yourself, I am sure
that any good store will do it for you...take your camera with you and they
will test the set-up as well.

You will be amazed at the quality you will then have.

All the best John Kelly

Isn't my ATI ALL IN WONDER 128 card good enough? I
thought because I used the Svideo cable it should work
(aswell as the capture cables so I can hook my computer
to my TV).

Hi there,

No. S-Video is a video only signal...there is NO audio on that line...I have
to say that I am getting confused over what it is you want to do. Connecting
your camera to your TV is an entirely different proposition. If you read the
manual that comes with your camera you will see that the recommended way of
connecting your camera to the computer is via a firewire card and cable.

Sorry for being so confusing You propably can tell I',m a
beginner with all this high tech stuff I'll try to be
more clear .
I get not audio when replaying clips that I captured on
my computer.
I'm assuming my ATI all in wonder 128 card is classified
as a firewire card due to the fact it came with all the
cables svideo and audio(maybe thats my mistake).

sorry for being a pain and thanks for your help

Hi there,

No, S-Video is NOT firewire. I hear tell that the all in card has firewire
support. Have you read the manual that comes with it

Yes I have read the manual for my canon camcorder and I
uderstand that S video is only a video cable.

OK... When I capture video then play it back I get no
audio?...Now my next question , Is ATI ALL IN WONDER 128
classified as a firwire card awswell as a video card?

Hello Again,

Regarding the graphics card. I just grabbed the stuff below my SIG from
the website and it reminds me of the mistake I made when I purchased my
graphics card. several lines down the specs is this remark "DVI" I did not
own a DV camera at that time, but I remember thinking when I bought the
camera just over a year ago that it would plug nicely into that socket. The
DVI socket on my card is not firewire capable. Its completely the wrong
fitting...many more pins etc etc. I have just done a search of the web page
containing the specs for this card and the FAQ page, both with a negative
result. Although I am fairly sure that I saw an MVP say that your type of
card has firewire capabilities, it now seems that I should have checked her
words out as it now seems to me that this card is not firewire capable. I am
not certain that I have looked at the correct card details of course, I
guess you will tell me if I have not.

As this message is fairly long...I will end it here and start a new
message in this thread about the audio problem

Best Wishes.....John Kelly

Hi Again,

Based on my thoughts in previous message and what I could find regarding
your graphics card and that your camera is Firewire capable etc and so on.
It seems to me that there are two methods open to you.

1) Capture using your S-Video cable, but you will need to hook up an audio
cable between camera and the "Line In" on your sound card.

or

2) Purchase a Firewire card and cable, install card to computer and connect
camera via firewire cable to computer. This method will give you the best
possible capture of your video signal AND audio. It will also give you some
onscreen controls for manipulation of the camera.

Best Wishes.....John Kelly

Ok I guess I have to purchase a real firewire card not
something that is capabilbe of friewire functions.
Thanks for all your help Johnkelly

I have a sony handycam DCR-TRV103 and am running WinXP
I used a firewire to go from the DV on my camera to my computer
No Sound. Do I need to get another cable to go from the red and yellow plugs on the camera into one of the little 'holes' on the computer (like the ones a mic or speaker use?
I actually thought the firewire (unlike s-video) would transfer sound and video
Thanks.
