Hi,

I know that I am posting this in the wrong section (Because there is no
NT section), but here is my problem...

I just installed Windows NT on a NEC Ready 9701SE PC, fresh from the
disk, however, there is no sound. I tried to add the driver in Multimeda in
the control panel. I want to add "Creative Labs Sound Blaster 1.X, Pro, 16",
but it wont continue because it wants a interrup number. I tried all of them,
with continuing in error. It says "The sound card cannot be found with this
interrupt. Check you're setting and try again.

May any one help me here? Do I need to update my service pack to SP6a?

This is a pretty ancient sound card and there might not be any proper
drivers, including from the Windows NT 4.0 installation cdrom, for it.
If the sound card is from the Creative SoundBlaster 16 famkily, then
look for a file named awent40.exe.

You need to obtain and install all of the WinNT-specific device drivers
for the laptop's components. Contact NEC for assistance, if they still
exist.

Install a PnP OS ( win98 SE or Win2000) in non-ACPI mode on this machine;
note what type of sound device it detects and what is the interrupt number.

Windows NT is extremely old and is "not" plug and play (pray!)

You need to accdess the BIOS setups and set any PnP OS setting to
"No" / "None."

Also, to may need to set up and assign IRQ 5 to a "ISA" slot.

For NT: press some F key (F7?) when setup starts, then it lets you to select
the HAL type.

For win98: if memory serves, it is a command line option for setup (type
setup /?)

---> But I still have a problem... the sound is vvveeerrryyy slow. I cant
even hear it for a while until I turned the volume all the way up...
