You have to install drivers for your hardware. To find out what hardware
is in your computer (if it is not a recognizable brand like HP, Dell,
Sony etc.) use the free system inventory program Everest Home Edition:

http://www.lavalys.com/index.php?page=product&view=1

Then get drivers and install them for your motherboard and any other
hardware in the machine (audio, video, modem, network adapter, etc.).

Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from:

1. The card mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if onboard video; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers.

Once you have found out what hardware you have, you go to Google and
search on its name. For instance, if the motherboard mftr. is Asus use
the search term "Asus drivers" and see that you should go to asus.com
and start looking for support downloads. If you have an Nvidia video
card, go to nvidia.com for drivers. If you have an OEM machine (JP,
Compaq, Dell, etc.) go to the OEM's website and look for downloads for
your specific model computer.

If this is difficult, take the machine to a professional computer repair
shop and have them get everything fixed up for you. There is no shame
in doing this.
