Help please. My system completely crashed. I rang the adviser at MESH and
after running through a number of options, we could only install the original
MS disc from scratch. Obviously, this has meant I have lost a lot of data,
but my main concern is that I have no sound. The adviser told me to download
from ASUS, choosing Download to Motherboad, Soc 754 for K8VMX. problem is it
gives a number of options that I don't understand (which driver.) My brother
has tried installing general drivers and one recommended by Micorosoft help
and support but PC is stating that they are not compatible! Any
suggestions...please?

P.S...I have MS Win 2003 standard edition. I have tried troubleshooting via
microsoft help but audio is all greyed out!

According to the manual for that board it uses ADI AD1888 Sound Max
6-channel audio codec S/PDIF out interface.
The latest updated driver for it, ver5.12.01.5150 08/09/2005 can be
downloaded starting at:
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

After getting to the linked page do not download anything from that page,
instead on the top right under General download:
Select Motherboard in the first box.
Select 754 in the second box.
Select K8V-MX in the third box.
Click the Search button.

Scroll down to fourth listed download and download/save to your hd, the
English Manual which has all the info you need for the mobo and installing
an OS and drivers.
Scroll down to the second from last download on the page and
download/save to your hd, SoundMax drivers mentioned above. Follow any
instructions provided with the download to extract/install.
