No sound recording on Asus M2V-MX SE

This is odd. I have installed Audacity as a sound recorder / mixer.
The source is grayed out and i am unable to record any input. I can
play Audio CDs and loop the Radio input through the line in and output
to the Hi-Fi.
Just the recording side.

If I do this on a Gigabyte motherboard. No problem. I have installed
the sound drivers on botth.

Any solutions apart from binning the Asus motherboard ?

It's a common problem with some iterations of this board. I forget what
I did to get past it, but searching google will help. Have you
downloaded the latest drivers? BIOS update?
