Hello There,
To be honest, No. If you have the Microphone enabled and also selected as
the audio source in Movie Maker there is nothing else with respect to
selecting an option. This is from the help file...
---
Audio device
Lists the available audio capture devices you can use for capturing audio.
If you have only one audio capture device, such as your default sound card,
that device is selected automatically.
This option is available only for analog devices.
Audio input source
Lists the available connection input lines based on the number of input
connections available for the selected audio device. For example, if you
have a microphone attached to the microphone line input of your computer,
you would choose Microphone as the audio input source.
This option is available only for analog devices with multiple line inputs.

If the above fits what you see yourself it would seem that a faulty
installation might be the cause. As your audio system appears to work well
with everything else it suggests the cause is Movie Maker...and of course
that's a program that cannot be uninstalled. So unless someone else has a
better idea A download of the full version of Movie Maker 2 might be a good
idea. Do not use the install over the Internet option if it is offered.
It may also be a good idea to download the full versions of DirectX version
9.0b and Media Player Version 9. If you decide to go this route then this
may be of help
1) Reboot machine and install DirectX
2) Reboot and install Media Player
3) Reboot and install Movie Maker
Don't be tempted to test part way through whether its solved the
problem....that in itself can cause a problem (Registry changes based on
the state of the machine so far can occur defeating your aims)
If this does not work you could go back further and re-install the audio
device, but I think we would be scraping the bottom of the barrel of ideas.
