No sound on WMP 7.1

Just your WMP or your entire system, like system sounds???
More info needed to provide any assistance in this matter.

media player installed. I down loaded WMP 7.1 and found
that I had no sound when playing any type of media. I do
have sound with other applications however, and have since
uninstalled and reinstalled WMP 7.1 to see if this would
help. It didn't! I did notice an odd thing though, when
looking at the "format" options that WMP is allowed to
play in I found that there were none listed. That brought
me to this sight. Any suggestions?
