No sound on DVD player

I am a total novice on movie making and editing, so please bear with me.
I have recently purchased a Sony DCR HC 30. Using Windows movie maker, I have downloaded a movie onto a CD-R, which works fine when played back on the computer. However it doesnt play in the DVD player. I have downloaded the same movie onto another CD-R using Sony picture package, this shows visual images but no sound on the DVD player. Any suggestions?? as simple as possible please!!
 
Movie Maker vcd's do not play back on most modern dvd players. Do you have
something like nero, which should do the job you want with the minimum of
fuss. I don't know the sony package I'm afraid.
Also, how did you save the finished movie from MM, as a dv-avi?
