Vera,
If you are trying to play a retail 'movie' type DVD on your drive, they use
a sound format called Dolby 5.1
A lot of older soundcards can't handle this format.
You can check for updates from the soundcard manufacturer, but it tends to
require a hardware upgrade.
If this isn't what you meant, post some more info about the discs being
played and your system specs.
Hope this helps,
Chek

Sorry

I don't know what happened to the message. I did l leave one honest!!!

I'll try again. In answer to Jake. I know I'm gormless but not that
gormless! I've only tried the NG when I got to tearing out of the hair
stage.

Thank you Chek for being a little more tolerant with a Newbie.
My PC -which I've just bought- is an Aries 1.7. It has a 3D soundblaster
etc. I've checked headphones, volume etc. Gone through the troubleshooting.
Anyway guys thanks for your help. I shall now wait impatiently for my
'techie support' to get back to me ( that seems to take forever)
I just thought somebody on the group might have been able to help
quicker -without the sarcasm!!
