No sound in mpeg2 video

This is yet another older problem that does not happen for years at a
time. I forgot what to do. I am now codependent on intervideo codecs playing
the mpeg2 (my own only) and the sound does not function unless it is in the
corel video editor or windvd. I did use the decoder checkup utility by
microsoft and it is set as "preferred" to use intervideo ax controls for
sound and video. What do I do?

You don't say what format the mpeg2 video is in, but if they are .m2v files
then there is indeed no sound contained within the file. The sound is
stored separately. Sometimes, but not always, in two accompanying .avi
files (one for the left channel and one for the right).

Or .mp2 or .ac3 (for the sound part)

thanks for not one bonehead answer but two in a row. At least its english.
I SAID I GET SOUND IN WINDVD OR COREL EDITOR..who freakin cares what the
suffix is..I have an installed codec that has always worked. I reinstalled
the "always" codec to try and fix and something stupid is happening so it
won't give sound in win media player 11..if you must know it is upperfield
first anamorphic 4:3 or 16:9 10mbit mpeg2.. with mpeg audio layer 2,
extremely typical, windows used to play it... all ntsc dvd standard.

what do I do to fix it, it is a fast fix, can't find the answer to this age
old retarded win98 similar problem....in my xp sp3 os. I even
blamed the roms like an idiot. The files are on the drive.

If you are going to be abusive, then I suggest that you take you problem and
shove it where the sun don't shine.

The suffix is very important because it gives away the actual format of the
data in the file. Most decent video editors and utilities know about the
sound being stored separately for .m2v files, and will find the audio files
and play them in synchronism.

Of course if you gave a bit more information such as what format the files
actually are rather than what the contained video format is, then you might
get more accurate responses.

You're looking for help here, and are that rude and abusive to people trying
to help? Even if their answers are wrong, your attitude and response is
terrible. You won't get any help from me, and lots of other people here will
also ignore someone with an attitude like yours.
