No sound/game option on Device Manager

I seem to be in an endless loop after my clean install to XP. The Device
Manager has no/no option for sound or game devices at all. And every time I
try to install the (latest!) driver for my SoundBlaster Live! Value, all I
get is the error:

"The required section was not found in the INF."

So I can neither check the device or install the driver. At least the
system detects the hardware. What must I do? I don't enjoy silent computing!

TIA,
Cyg

It's quite possible the install file you have is corrupt or isn't the correct one
for your card. You can open the .inf file in notepad and have a look to see if
anything is out of the ordinary and/or if your model number is/is not listed.

You could also if you wish, use the automatic updater on the Creative site and see
if the drivers/firmware will update properly.

Actually, the solution turned out to be easier than I thought.

Since, as Brian said, one of the INF files was likely corrupted, doing a
re-install of XP over the existing one did the trick. The file must have
been replaced, because the Sound and Game device managers reappeared.

Thanks for the help!
