You need to be more precise. What makes you think your sound system has
disappeared? An error message? No sounds from any application? No sounds
from a particular application? The Windows sound/audio troubleshooter
ran out of ideas?

Thanks for responding - I haven't had any error messages about this but
there is no sound/audio either from the main computers speakers ie 'welcome
to AOL' or 'You have e-mail' etc and no sound when I try to play CDs. I
think this is also preventing me from copying CDs onto my MP3 - I can copy
the CD onto my hard drive and across to the MP3 - the computer is showing me
it has been transferred but the MP3 is indicating 'no list' on selection.
Any further suggestions please?

And the Sound Troubleshooter didn't help?

I have no idea what your MP3 player is, or what "no list" may mean in
relation to it. It's probably unrelated to your sound issue.
