i Reformated my computer, and installed most of the drivers, but have no
sound. i do not have a "Drivers CD" and do not know what kind of soundcard i
have. i checked the site of the place where i bought the computer, "Frys
Electronics" and looked for what kind of soundcard i had, it mentioned
"Audio:Realtek ALC655 6-Channel audio CODEC ". i am not sure if this is the
sound card, or the kind of driver i need. Could anyone PLEASE tell me how to
find the Drivers for the sound card?

Did you build this computer yourself or is it from a reputable system
builder? What is the Make and model of the computer? If you purchased
from a vendor check their website for the drivers. Also,
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com could find the correct drivers for
your sound card.

You should have got a CD or two with your machine. sound may not be the primary item on the CD, frinstance, mine is an ASUS CD that installs a lot of asus stuff, [the motherboard ASUS P4P800], some sound stuff, adobereader, virus software etc..
It'd be a CD related to your motherboard..
Or a sound card if you installed one separately.
See what kind of motherboard you have. You could probably see it at boot up, unless all you see is devices loading. Hit setup and change logon screen.

You should have the CD. If not see if you can get a CD from the manufacturer of your motherboard.

i bought the computer built, the shop "Frys Electronics" made the computer ,
the model is FM 7840 which is related to the FM 8140 which is up on their
site. i DID get some CD's when i bought the computer so i will check those
out. if they dont work i will repost.
Thx

i found 2 CD's that came with the computer, they did not have the drives for
the Sound card, all they had were programs like Word Perfect, Adobe Reader,
Nortons anti-virus, and other things.
Could anyone help me finding Drivers for my sound card? [ any site where i
could find them and may be Download them.]

Put the drives in your DVD player, then look for the sound stuff. My installation disk doesn't mention any of the stuff that's on it. I emailed the place that put mine together when I had this same exact problem. they said it was on the asus CD.

Use the install disks, and look for the sound stuff. Those install disks are exactly that INSTALL disks.

Download and run Belarc Advisor, it should tell you the name of your
motherboard and sound chip. You should then be able to go to the
manufacturers website(s) and download the neccesary drivers for your system.

I think that Belarc enumerates the devices by looking in the registry.
If the device as listed as an unknown device it will not be listed
properly. However if the device is integrated you can retrieve the model
of the motherboard from belarc and then visit the mobo manufacturers
website for the correct drivers.
