I have my ATI AIW 7500 wired to my creative live 5.1. When I tried to
capture video for the first time I got no sound at all. A friend said
I may have to yank a wire from my audio connector and rewire it
according to the diagram in the manual (for connector pins 2 & 4). Is
he full of it or what?
Thanks, Mark.

?! I would think not
when you initialized the TV for the first time what did you set the audio source to be? If you can't remember run the wizard again
from the settings window.

My first attempt was capturing from a sony handicam. I used my s-v
cable and RCA for sound in to my AIW adapter. It grabs the picture
fine but no sound. I went in to my audio HQ and made sure that line in
was selected for audio in and nothing was muted. I spent about two
hours pouring over previous posts but nothing I have tried has helped.
In the manual it shows pins on the AIW from one to four as being grd,
left, grd, right. I have plugged it every which way imaginable but
still no dice.
The rewiring thing came from him telling me that since there is four
pins but only three wires, one of the wires has to be moved over to
match up to the sound card. At this point I am so frustrated if
someone told my to stand on my head while capturing I'd probably try
it!

I c where he is coming from here, as usually its left -grd -grd -right / left -grd -right -grd. I would say he has something there
but since its stereo I would think you would get ....some....sound whether it would be acceptable would be another thing, but there
should be some kind of sound.. crackles pops etc.

have you checked the continuity of the cable coming from the cam, prioritary cabling(only fits that cam)?

can you output to a VCR or TV and all is well?

Sound would be from the MIC? or is it from pre recorded playback?

AIR from when I had an AIW, the connector from the AIW to the soundcard had
the usual black audio connector at the soundcard end, and a little white
connector at the AIW end. I don't recall the details of the wiring, but the
little white connector was not wired up the same way as the soundcard
connector. How about someone with an AIW checking their connector and
posting the results? :-)

That's exactly the deal - a four pin from the AIW that takes the
little white connector. It doesn't seem to jive with the sound card. I
will try it again with the tv monitor to see if I can get any sound
that way. I was attempting the first capture using the Ulead software
that came with the card. I know it's not top shelf but adobe premiere
is a little involved for a newbie like me. Has anyone looked at their
wiring scheme to see how it is hooked up?

Just dug an old lead out, BI, and the red and white leads (which, in an
audio environment, and seemingly here too, would be, respectively, the right
and left live leads) are connected to the outside pins on the black
soundcard plug, with the black (common ground) lead connected next to the
white lead, and the pin next to the red lead is empty. On the smaller white
AIW card plug end, the red lead is on an outside pin, the black is next, and
the white lead after that, leaving the other outside pin empty.

As an afterthought, BI, looking at the connectors with the retaining clip
uppermost on the black sound card connector and the lead coming towards me,
the red lead is on the left. On the little white AIW connector, with the
guide ridges uppermost and the lead coming towards me, the red lead is on
the right.
