No sound after upgrading to win2k from win98se

I recently have upgraded my Window OS from windows 2000 to
windowws 98se. Everything worked perfectly but my sound.
I uninstalled allm old drivers and bought a new sound card
(SBlive! 5.1) reinstalled the new drivers. Everything
within windows tells me that it is working but I still get
no sound what so ever.

I am not sure if it matters or not, but I used the upgrade
feature in the installation CD vs. /fdisk and installing a
fresh copy. I have been told i should have done a clean
install vs. upgrading.

Any help would be appreciated.

Upgrade vs clean shouldn't matter with something like sound especially
since you got a new card. Some things to look at that you might have
already looked at.

Does device manager show the sound card working?

Have you checked the master volume in the mixer to make certain its not
too low or even muted? Look closely because this is common one to miss.

Have you checked your speakers? With 5.1 you have 3 plugs and if using 2
speakers it must be in the front one.

Have you tested both MIDI and wave since they use different components?

Hello,

Thank you for your help. I figured out that when I
upgraded to a 5.1 card I also need to update my stereo
wire.

Could you please remove my email address from my original
post. Someone has taken it upon themselves to send me
emails filled with viruses. The worst part is that they
are claiming to be from Microsoft.
