Hi
I am not very computer literate and after changing from
Windows 98 to XP there has been no sound. The sound card
settings all appear OK and have tried the suggestions on
the Help Menu with no success

Could it be anything to do with the speakers rather than
the sound card? There is power to them - the red light
comes on.

Also my computer is much slower since XP was installed.
Is this usual?

No.

As for sound issues, look here...

Hi. You need to go to the device manager and right click
on your sound device. Click on update drivers. Once it
has downloaded the drivers you should fine your sound
works fine

What are the specifications of the machine ... particularly the
processor and the amount of RAM? Might help to explain the slowness
of your machine vs Win98. For example, you'd be in trouble if you
installed XP on a Pentium 266 with 64 meg of RAM.

Plus, take a look at this site and study it carefully. If you have
enough horsepower, then this site will be helpful.

Plus, the ole PC may need some regular housecleaning. Again, take a
look at that above site for suggestions on PC maintenance. With
careful study, your XP computer should be at least as fast as Win98.
My experience is ... faster and much more stable.
