I have an HP Pavilion 6350 that had Windows 98. I upgraded to an XP
Professional with a Systems Student Media cd. I can play sounds and media
player, but no sound on computer sounds/ cd drive/ speakers & headsets.
Checked volumes, reinstalled XP, talked to techs on HP and my college that
sent cd. Nada. I tried to follow the article on other place on this website,
but no go. Any suggestions? I do not know what to do next except buy another
tower.
HP techs said possibly incompatible, another suggestion was a new sound card
would help, but I don't even know where to start with that. Thank you.

I am not sure if your upgrade included the drivers of your sound card. That
would be necessary, as the audio (and MIDI) part of the operating system
differs between Windows 9x/ME and NT/2k/XP.
But there could be many causes, rather specific to individual systems.

Usenet, the part of the Internet with the newsgroups, is not a website (that
would be on the World Wide Web part of the Internet). But obviously one can
find newsgroup messages on websites, notably with Google Groups. :-)
