According to Help file, I should have an option to choose a previous restore
point on the System Restore screen but I don't. I also have only one choice
of a restore point: today, which is useless. I've read so many of the threads
but can't find the solution. I'm running Vista Home Ediition, I have 220g
hard drive with lots of room to spare. I don't dual boot with XP, I have not
changed the defaults for space allocated to System Restore. I'm baffled and
I'm grateful for any help.

If you booted into XP, you wiped the Restore Points in Vista.
Unfortunate, but well known problem...

Thanks to Chris S. and Brink but perhaps my question was not clear. Although
I have dual booth since installing a year ago, I have never booted with XP
since, so that could not explain why I have no previous restore points
besides today's.

Hi, Lance,

Restore points are controlled by Shadowstorage.

Right click CMD.EXE and select - Run As Administrator,
Type - Vssadmin list shadowstorage and hit Enter.
Look at the Maximum storage space to see how much is allotted.

You can change the maximum size using the following line:
Vssadmin resize shadowstorage /For=C: /On=C: MaxSize=2GB (you can use from
2GB up to 10GB)

Good Luck
Jerry

Right click the file in Windows Explorer and choose Properties. You'll see
the Previous version tab.

Make sure the file is not open in any program.
