I had the same problem with my HP 6200C scanner and after hours and hours of
fooling around loading drivers...I finally fixed the problem...but at a
cost.

Go here and download the VueScan software. http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html
They will let you try it for free...at least it won't cost you anything to
find out it actually works.

Install it and then right click the VueScan Icon. Click Properties from the
pop window, then click the Compatibility tab, then click the check box where
it says "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service
Pack 2)".

After you've adjusted the startup Icon, go to the Control panel and click
the Scanners and Cameras Icon...your scanner should pop up into the window
while you are looking.

I'd recommend shuting down, power down and do a cold restart after loading
the VueScan driver program.

You should be good to-go after that.

This is the only thing I've found that works...If someone else has found
something, I'd sure like to know.

(I'm not associated in any way with VueScan..I'm just a user like you, who
had a Vista scanner problem.)

Windows Fax & Scan (WFS) only works with scanners that have WIA (version 1 &
2) drivers. If your scanner uses a TWAIN driver, it will not work with WFS.
