Hello All,
Unique problem here - has me absolutly baffled. Tried
searching the Knowledge Base but to no avail!
I am building a frankenstein PC for my girlfreind using
parts from her older system [optical, drives, etc] and
the case/MB from her brothers system that he doesn't need
anymore.
I connected a new HD in as the master, using her old one
with 98SE as the slave, booted via CD-ROM and installed
2000 [using a fresh partition in NTFS] on the new drive.
So far so good.
Now here's the catch. I booted for the initial 2000 boot-
up, detects hardware, restarts... didn't find a mouse!
Tried searching via Add/Find Hardware, no luck. Tried
installing drivers off a CD for s different mouse i have
and using that one, no luck... has me baffled!
Here's the details... Her keyboard works fine, in one of
those really ancient keyboard jacks that are about the
size of a nickel... PCT or something like that if i
recall?
She has 2 USB ports, 1 serial, and 2 PS2... i've tried
using all of them, via different adapters and such - no
luck on any of them. Still cannot detect a mouse. Safe
mode is also a no go.
I'm really stumped because this is a clean install - i
don't understand what could be wrong! I've even tried
reformatting the new drive and redoing the install to see
if it would kickstart anything - again no luck. I'm sure
the mice are fine as i'm using one of them right now on
my own system.
Oh yeah - i also tried updating to SP4, just to make
sure - but that was worthless as well. I have no idea
what to do, and without a mouse this system is worthless!
And yes, i checked the obvious, "PS2 Mouse/Keyboard
Support" is enabled in the BIOS!
ANY help that anyone can offer would be greatly
appreciated - thank you so much!
