I cannot run my HP Laserjet 4L printer on windows Vista - the HP website says
use the add printer wizard - but that doesn't work. can anyone help?
thanks.

thanks, but neither of these replies help.

I did read the HP site, several times, very carefully, and this is where you
end up in trying to download the Vista driver for the HP Laserjet 4L

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c00811676

and, as it says there:

"At this time the driver will only be available on the Windows Vista
operating system through the “Add a Printer†wizard. HP does not plan on
placing this legacy driver on www.hp.com."

the Add A Printer wizard will not install a working driver for my printer,
despite several attempts, and the aid of online tech support.

what's more - the microsoft communities email I received today alerting me
to your replies contained links to blank pages????

again thanks for your time, but I still need a direct link to a working
Vista driver for an HP Laserjet 4L.

I found that the sequence of setting up the printer was important. Uninstall
the printer driver. Shut down computer. Reboot and allow Windows to find
and install the HP4L driver. The 4L printer driver is available via Windows
Vista....I don't know whether this is version specific or not..I'm running
Vista Home Premium. But that shouldn't matter...you should be able to get
the printer...You can also try to have Windows look for it online.
I've also read that some people have trouble simply because of the
usb-parallel cable they were using. I bought a Cables to Go one for about
$20 from Compusa and never had a problem from minute one. I followed the
sequence for installation recommended, Windows found and installed driver,
and voila.
Good luck.
