I am attempting to setup a dsl connection, but when I try
to set this up manually the "connect using a broadband
connection that requires a user name and password" option
is grayed out! I also noticed that I do not have
the "Remote Access Auto Connection Manager" service listed
in my services list- is this the problem? Or could it be
something else? I have XP pro installed, on two different
pcs at home and have the same prob with both. Anyone got
any ideas???? Please!?!?!?!

I have tried the knowledge data base several times!!!
ARhg! What I have found is ways of installing a PPOE
connection and a solution to what sounded similar to my
problem, but did not fix the prob! I will take a look at
the links you provided and see if they are the ones I
have already tried; thanks for the input, I do appreciate
your attempted help!!! I am afraid I have a serious issue;
which would not be a big deal (I have no fears of
reinstalling my os), but I have the same prob on multiple
machines! Bad disk??? Might be- right, thanks again!
Anyone else care to chime in???

You say you have the same problem on multiple machines
and then ponder if it is due to a bad XP CD.
Does this mean you have purchased a volume license for
this one XP CD?
I seriously doubt you could have ended up with the same
problem from several different XP CD's.

No, I only have the one cd- I happen to own several old
machines, as well as my newer one, and installed xp on
these so they were all the same os. If you might have a
solution to my problem I would greatly appreciate the help-
if you want to talk about legalities of copywriting, you
have the wrong newsgroup. Thanks.

Have you tried starting the Remote Access Connection Manager? What error
do you get? Missing the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager is strange,
but I wouldn't think it would affect the connection wizard like that.

Ken-

I am not getting any errors whatsoever- but in
the "services" list, the remote access auto connection
manager is simply not there! Frankly, I am beginning to
wonder about the copy of XP that came with this machine! I
bought the machine from a guy in the bay who works with a
lot of programmers from various companies (Acer, Dell,
etc...)and he sent this disk along with it. Are there
differing versions around that work differently- or maybe
a wierd programmer version or something??? Hell, I don't
know, I'm grasping at straws here!!! Thanks for the
input!!!!

Maybe I'm not being clear, or I 'm not sure about your response.

There are two services on an XP box.

Remote Access Connection Manager
Remote Access Auto Connection Manager

You say the second is missing, is the first missing too? Are you able to
start the first?

When you bought the machine did you get a real retail or OEM XP disk? If
not, you might have a chat with the seller. If you have a disk, it might be
worth a repair install as if the RAACM is missing, who's knows what else is
going on.
