Recently I had to do a recovery from my Windows 2000 CD as
I had a Winnt System 32 error. The recovery corrected the
problem and allowed me to get into Windows. However,
since then I have not been able to access the internet. I
have an Alltel DSL using Tango Manager. I have
reinstalled the soft ware but can not create a new profile
which allows me access to the internet because I get a
message that "no PPPoE adapter available. I have looked
at Administrative Tools, Network Adapters and I can see 15
adapters. Can you shed any light on my problem? I have
installed and uninstalled my Alltel software with all the
internet connections disconnected with no luck. I have
been on the phone with Alltel for hours and they have
given up. Please help.

What I would do, but I don't know your ability [maybe someone can help], would be to
go into device manager and uninstall all your network adapters and then reboot at
which time your computer "should" recognize your network adapter and install it for
you. It may however ask for the drivers, in which case you will need to have the disk
available or tell it which directory to use. If all that works, then try to install
your Alltel software again, bur uninstall it before uninstalling the network
adapters. To uninstall your network adapters use My
Computer/properties/hardware/device manager/view/show hidden devices [enable that].
Then in the same window expand you computer icon that has the computer name, select
network adapters and expand it. Then right click each one and select uninstall where
you will probably be prompted and select yes. You may want to write down your tcp/ip
configuration first from one of your adapters by viewing it in Control Panel/network
connections/lan where you will then select properties/tcp/ip to view the tcp/ip
configuration. You may need to retry the Internet Explorer connection wizard when
done or you might even try it first by selecting tools/internet options
/connections/set up while in Internet Explorer where you will need to select the last
option "through the lan". Good luck. --- Steve
