Because the power transformer in the actual printer is probably dead.
If it's under guarantee, contact Canon. If it's not, get a new printer.

Thanks Cari.
Of course that old thing wasn't under guarantee anymore so I just
bought a
used printer for 10 bucks. Another antique BJC-210, a BJC-210ex,
actually, whatever that means. This is temporary, until I find a job
to buy myself a decent printer (and I need a printer to find a
job...).
This one I can turn on, but when I send a print command, the rollers
start
rolling and the paper gets into position (or at least tries to), but
that's it. The paper isn't fed through the feeder afterwards. My paper
selection lever is set to back and my ink cartridge lever set to the
left for automatic loading of plain paper.
What can be the problem? (yeah I tested the printer before I bought it
and it didn't print either, but I figured it could probably be fixed).
