No Power=No Start
I hope somebody out there has seen this before.
I just went into another room for fifteen minutes or so and when I came
back to computer it was shut off. I am the only person around [except
for the voices in head] so nobody shut it off. I originally thought it
was in standby mode maybe, but nope I have tried everything to start it
& nothing works. The motherboard looks good & doesn't smell burnt. I
put in a new power supply just in case it was that simple, but still
nothing. I checked the basics[ power cord, make sure switch is on, make
sure the red switch was still on 110], nothing seems to help. I
unplugged the start and reset wires and re plugged them. How can I
check the power supply without the PC on? Is there a way?
Thanks to whoever can figure it out.
Oh yeah it is a AMD Duron, 1009 MHz
Motherboard is Asus A7V133-C
Chipset is VIA VT8363A Apollo KT133A
Thanks Bruce

Were there any electrical storms in the area?

Does the fan run?

Check the wall outlet for power; plug a lamp into it.

Does your computer have a fuse? Check the motherboard for a fuse.

You say you unplugged the power and reset switches and reattached them but
you did you try shorting the pins for the power switch when it was
unplugged? You simply touch a screw driver tip across the 2 pins that the
power switch connects to. I've seen bad switches do this sort of thing. Did
you examine the case side connections for the switches? These are under the
face plate.

Bad RAM can cause some boards to refuse to start. If you have more than one
stick try pulling one and then the other and see if that helps. And a failed
CPU can also do this. You may need to take the system into a shop to have it
accessed :-(

This happened to my uncle's system. Not until I tried unplugging each PCI
card and testing power up, was I able to determine that it was the modem
card.

Once I determined that, I replaced the card and everything was OK. The
system would not power up or do anything until I removed the card.

Sorry forgot that one no storms and checked the power bar and outlet is
still working no fuses were burnt put in a new battery and power supply
with no effects it does not even try to start

I think you need to check the motherboard.....specifically the capacitators.
Mobo do burn out...or at least the parts that comprises a mobo and judging
by your chipset yours is a little on the aged side.
