no popups, etc

I recently started having problems with ie--one of the symptoms seems to
be that pop-ups don't.

My son did some things he shouldn't have, and I ended up with 3 copies
of JAVA_BYTEVER.A on my computer, which I took care of, but seemed to
have no effect since I had my Windows Updates up to date. I don't think
this had anything to do with my problem, though.

The biggest problem is some of the webmail sites we use don't work when
you click on the messages. I noticed that some other things don't work,
like when you go to Windows Updates, and it says it has a driver update.
When I click "effected hardware" which I believe is in JS, nothing
happens.

For me, this isn't a big problem, but something is a little amiss. MY
AV software is up-to-date, I did a Trojan Scan, and I am running a
firewall (and my son discovered how to bypass them all!!!).

Could I also have some type of "pop-up" blocker installed? If so, I'm
not sure what to look for (I think I read there was one in .vbs).

TIA-Jim

Some AV programs can block popups. Check the settings.

Checked--Settings not blocking popups. Same settings I've been using
for years on AV.
