No pictured in Vista Help -MVPs??

Home Premium, brand new Dell XPS desktop. Does anyone here have a clue why
the all the graphics are broken (don't display, red Xes) in all Vista online
help screens? It's been like that since I first booted it up. Everything
else in Help works fine. It's as if the URL mshelp schema in the XML is
wrong and the graphic URLs are wrong. Dell tech support didn't have a clue
about this. Looks like a MS source code problem, or is there a locally held
DB on my box that's corrupt . . .?

If you specifically ask for some MVPs help you deserve the low level
of help you'll typically get.

I don't care where the help comes from. I humbly beg forgiveness. I was told
by Dell that it was a Microsoft problem that they can't do anything about
and I should ask Microsoft experts and put MVP in the subject to get a reply
from Microsoft. If it's a stupid idea then color me stupid. Please ignore
it. I will never do it again. Ever. Not ever, really, never.

So you just want a response from MVP's?

As I said to Adam, I don't care where the help comes from. I humbly beg

More on problem: The graphics that do not appear are the topic ones that
appear on the main opening Help screens to the left of each topic. If a Help
topic link is clicked the fetched page does show graphics in the body of the
page, but the little (or big -- who knows, I've never seen them) topic
graphcs still don't show on the fetched page.

MVPs don't work for Microsoft. Here are several possibilities to fix
your problem:

A. Fix Windows Vista Help & Support - Kristan Kenney -
http://tinyurl.com/2cxe7l
This is a registry fix that reassociates the .xml file type with default
settings.

B. Icons in Help are missing - This happens if the "Content Type"
setting for .PNG file types is broken. Download a REG file from Daniel
Martin's site here - http://winvista.mvps.org/Ficheros/PNG.reg

Download and save it to Desktop. Right-click on the file and choose
Merge. The manual fix:

1. Close the Help and Support window.
2. Start the Registry Editor by clicking Start, typing "regedit" (no
quotation marks), and pressing ENTER. (You need administrator privileges to
do this.)
3. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.png.
4. Right-click the .png folder, point to New, and then click String value.
5. Add a new string named "Content Type" (without quotation marks).
6. Double-click the new Content Type string and set the Value data to
"image/png" (without quotation marks).
7. Close the Registry Editor, and then open Help and Support.

C. Pages in Windows Vista Help and Support are not displayed correctly -

Dell is mistaken. MVP's are not employees of Microsoft, do not represent
Microsoft, do not have their responces vetted by Microsoft and are in no way
beholden to or by Microsoft on any account. So when an MVP replies to you it
is not Microsoft replying. That said, MVP is an award given by Microsoft to
recognize good contribution in the newsgroups and elsewhere. MVPs are
skilled professional individuals who often work very hard to get the correct
answers out to people who post on these newsgroups.

In theory they are skilled professionals. Some are and some are not :)

Ha ha .. when I wrote that I felt like I was sounding ..well, anyway, does
one even apply for it? I thought one was voted for or somesuch. I'd feel
presumptuous applying for a prestigious thing. Besides, I'd have to give up
my handle.

I don't think it's something that you apply for. It just shows up. Like a
rash or the flu :) *

* with apologies to the MVP's who actually do help people.

Well all I can say is -- I learned a LOT more than could ever have imagined
here! LOL

Thanks.

Do not humbly beg forgiveness. That is just plain wrong.

Although I must admit I detect a hint of sarcasm in your "Not ever, really,
never." response.
