when i put a film on my storyboard/ timeline to edit it and go too play it back i can hear the sound but see no picture does anyone know how to solve this problem. Iam using Xp Home edition. Thanks

HI there,

Are you sure that you are putting it onto the correct timeline....you should
put it on to the uppermost, if you put it on the lowest one, you will get the
exact, in your case, problem you describe.

If the above is not the issue, then you might want to consider capturing the
video with Movie Maker 2...that would most likely fix it.

Hi there,

On the face of it, it sounds as though the video codec is not working
correctly. A Codec is a piece of interface code which if you like works along
the black box method......you don't know how it does it, but you know that if
you feed the right type of data in then you will get the required result....and
that's the your problem. Either the codec used is defective (as in not suitable
any more for the task) or the video file itself is not suitable for the task.
That does not mean the the video file is corrupt, it may simply mean that its
not in exactly the right format for THIS codec.

Here are some on the fly thoughts about things to check.

Capturing

1) Are you capturing the video using Movie Maker 2

2) If you are using some other program to capture, is it a new(ish) program and
saving the video using the best codecs available

Graphics Card

3) Is it suitable??? Movie Maker uses the latest OpenGL and DirectX protocols
to draw transitions etc and the card has to be capable of handling these.

4) Does it have Hardware acceleration, if yes, is it turned On

5) Have you tried turning down the acceleration of the card?

6) Is the refresh rate of your adapter/monitor set correctly (make sure you use
the option of only displaying settings that your equipment can handle)

7) Setting the screen resolution to high or setting the colour depth to high
can result in failure to display correctly

Other Software

8) Do you have the free versions of Power DVD or WinDVD installed on your
system (or old versions you paid for) If yes you may want to consider upgrading
them or removing them....the older versions are well known for the problems
they cause.

9) If you did not use Movie Maker 2 to capture this video you should consider
re-capturing it with MM2

Your Computer

10) Does it have enough RAM

11) Is it fast enough A P3 or equivelant is the slowest you could realistically
use. A P4 is much more preferable

12) (Not Likely to be the cause) How large is your system Pagefile (Virtual
Memory) Either...allow Windows to set it, or Set it your self to 1.5 times your
RAM

13) Unlucky for some !!! Is the computer up to date...do you have Windows Media
Player 9 and DirectX 9b

If you do not understand any of the terms or know how to check them please ask.
