No picture in storyboard

I have imported a number of jpg's into moviemaker and they are visible in the
"collection" part of the screen. If I select them individually they display
in the viewing window. However, after I have dragged a number of the pictures
into the storyboard, they do not display in the viewing window. If the movie
is played, there is no pictures displayed. You can see the movie selections
changing in the storyboard, but nothing in the viewing window.

thanks

hi there, i had this same problem a few days ago and a very kind member here
helped me out (well, a bunch tried to help!). Here's what they told me to do:

this is what he told me to do:

"if you want to try or the others think it is ok the process is:

Open the run command [menu start -> run is normally the bottom command
on the right hand side]

type in: regsvr32 quartz.dll"

That worked for him. At first it didn't work for me, so then what I did was
when I opened up WMM2 I went to options (which is under tools I believe) and
then find the little tab that says compatibility. Uncheck all of those little
boxes and press ok. Then try closing WMM and reopening it, and try to play
your clips in the timeline. I'm not sure if it was a combination of these
steps that worked or what, but I suggest you doing the compatiblity thing
first just to make sure. I hope this helps you!

Thanks "Dawnfire".
I unselected all the boxes in the compatability page, selected ok, closed
WMM2 and reopened WMM2 and the problem was fixed!! (Didn't do the regsvr32
thing.)

Following on from this, by a process of elimination I have identified that
the problem was a called "directVobsub (auto-loading version). This is the
only box now unchecked and the viewer works fine.

thanks again "Dawnfire" and others.

This is a frustrating problem. I amhaving the same problem and have tried
both suggestions below to no avail. I haven't tried shutiing down and
restarting but that is my next resort.

Are you also working with JPG images?
If not what are the file extensions for the clips in your project?
Sometimes JPG works and sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes MP3's work and sometimes they don't.
Very rarely will MPG files ever work.
So you see sometimes when this problem occurs it is a codec problem but
other times it is a file compatibility problem.

Wojo,

This is going to sound really dumb but I can't get the file extension to
show anywhere. The files come up in explorer as "video clip". They play in
Media Player fine. The video was captured with a casio exilim EX-Z750
digital camera. I am going to try deleting them and re-importing them with
compatability selections unchecked. The digital camera saves photos as j-pegs.

I have 3 weeks of long service leave left to figure this problem out!

Thanks

Snoozy.

=======================
If the file extensions don't show...try the following...

Open a folder and go to...Tools / Folder Options / View tab...

Uncheck..."Hide extensions for known file types" / Apply / OK.

Thanks John - simple when you know how. I spent 60 minutes reading my camera
manual and found out what you just showed me in 60 seconds the file extension
is .AVI

Well then that was probably the wrong approach then anyway since AVI files
are generally compatible with Movie Maker but AVI is a strange bird since
they can be created with so many different codecs.
My next recommendation then would be to download one of the codec packages
here:
http://www.free-codecs.com/
I would start with the XP Codec pack that usually does the trick.
-Wojo

Thanks Wojo but when I installed it every time I put a clip on the story
board movie maker crashes. Also before if I selected a clip I got video now I
only get audio. Is Movie maker really worth it? Was I supposed to do
something once I installed the codec? Do you actually enjoy using this
program!

Snoozy

I've tested a video clip from a Casio EX-Z750 camera on a couple computers
and it worked fine in Movie Maker without conversion... it's a 640x480 file
with an AVI extension...

the problem might be more of clashing codecs than of the file itself.... see
the Problem Solving > Crashes and Hangs page of my website.

I agree with Papajohn here.
What you will likely get from his site that is most useful in this case is
to disable all the codecs/filters and try your luck. If that works then you
can add one or two at a time to see when the problem starts.

I now have the same problem. I have tried your suggestions but no success. Is
there anything else I can try?. Thought about the complete uninstall/reload
option but not sure if this will impact other programs as warning signs
received on 1st attempt to reinstall. Any suggestions anyone please this is
frustrating me to no end!!!
