My friends send me some emails with pictures included - not a separate attachment - with text.
Instead of seeing pics, I have a blank box with a tiny red cross in the top corner. Why is that and
is there a way of correcting this?

The red cross indicates that your mail reader (whatever it is, you left
us guessing) cannot fetch the image from wherever the mail says it is.

You could view the source of the email, and if it is in HTML then you
could copy the SRC= value from the <IMG> tag into your browser to see if
it has better luck. At least the browser should give you a rough idea of
the problem if it cannot access the images.

It's possible that the mail was created with the IMG tags pointing at
local files on the originator's system (daft, but possible).

Thanks, but I thought there was a simple way in that I may need to "turn on" some files to allow
viewing pics? I am trying to locate the tools to turn it on, or am I looking at the wrong direction?

If your using outlook express, then it probably thinks it's a suspect
attachment.
In OE go to Tools>Options>Security and UNCHECK the box that says "Do not
allow attachment to be saved or opened" then click ok.
Hopefully this will fix the problem.
Good luck,
Mickey

Scan your machine and clean up the caches.

Many thanks - I have unchecked the box and the problem has been solved.
