I occasionally get this message. I don't really understand why. I built the
computer, installed all the software, and am the administrator, and the only
user.

How does an administrator go about giving oneself permission to use their
computer software as they see fit? I would have thought that the
administrator could do all functions.

TIA

Hi Cheryl,

I am having the same problem. My computer was working fine, but I decided
to add a password protection so that my son would not have access. I do not
have "Administrator Privileges" either. I cannot update or download
anything, I do not have permission. There are no other "users" for this
computer, I am logged on as "owner" and cannot log on as "Adminisrator". I
also could use some help as I cannot "defrag" "update" or do anything else.
Could anyone offer a solution as to how I can remove the log on Password
protection or how I could log on as "Administrator".

Wendy

Not even coming close to being confident on my expertise in these matters, I
think you can fix your problem by going into the control panel, user accounts
and rearrange your login status to administrator. I'm sure theres a
knowledge base article explaining how to do this.

I am the administrator on my machine and have these issues, so even if you
make the changes you may still have your problems, but probably not.

I could still use some help with this matter.

Thanks in advance.......

Hi,
Since you didn't mentioned what you are trying to achieve I can't pin point
the exact cause.
But if you Right click the program and see if it is Read olny or Read and
write or you can go to the security and assign the Admin more permissions and
full control on that paricular program.
The best is to use your Help and support feature on MS windows by opening
help and support and type permissions, security, privileges, group
policy..etc.. you will see lots of help and tips guiding you to assign or
limit the permisssions for users or added new users in the feature as Admin.
Here are some links for you to know more about perissions:

Hi Cheryl,

I have tried going through the Control Panel, there are no other users
(including Administrator), I cannot switch users. I have read a couple of
other messages and it seems to have something to do with Windows XP Home
Edition, it somehow hides the "administrator". I've tried logging on in the
safe mode but still couldn't find the administrator log on. Still looking.

It comforts me only a little to know i am not the only one with this issue. I
am struggling to get Outlook operating properly again after 2 frustrating
days. The last detail seems to be finding out how to give myself permission
to receivve emails. I can send, but when i click "send/receive" it tells me i
do not have appropriate permission to perform this operation.
I have tried to follow advice from the help file, but the properties window
for the outlook files does not have anything other than "general" info. My
options are "read only", "hidden" and "archive".

My problems began with access denied to the outlook.pst files. and then to
extend.dat. I have completely reinstalled OfficeXP Pro, and done a number of
file manipulations. At least now i ccan see my contacts, inbox and calendar.
I jsut can't get new email.

HELP!

Finally solved the issue. I changed the folder to archive status and
unchecked all read only boxes. now it works
