I would like ot know if anyone can help me understand why after I log on to
my computer it decided to not request my password after it leave it for a
while. The monitor turns off but when I move my mouse, my system comes right
back to where I was left and I need it to ask for the password. Can anyone
help?

On systems that support standby, you can allow the system to switch to
standby automatically after a period of inactivity or you can switch to
standby manually.

To enable automatic switching, follow these steps:

In the Power Options Properties dialog box shown in Figure 9-1, click
the Power Schemes tab.
Specify a time in the System Standby box.
Thereafter, your computer switches to standby after the specified amount
of time has elapsed without any input from keyboard, mouse, or other
devices. To configure other standby options, follow these steps:

1. In the Power Options Properties dialog box shown in Figure 9-2, click
the Advanced tab.
2. If you’re concerned about somebody else waking your computer from
standby, select Prompt For Password When Computer Resumes From Standby.
This option has no effect if your account doesn’t need a password to log
on to Windows.
3. For each button under Power Buttons, select Standby—or another action
if you prefer. (Despite its possible appearance in the dialog box, not
all computers have a sleep button.)
