No "out of office" reply for remote machines

We use Exchage 2000 and Outlook 2002.

Some users experienced problems during the X-mas period.
The problem is simple: Out of office replies were sent
normaly on the cie subnet but any destination OUTSIDE of
our domain didn't get Out of Office replies.

Is this a compatibility problem between Outlook and
Exchange or a problem specific to Outlook?

You advice will be apreciated.

This is the default for Exchange. Enabling the OoOA to reply to the Internet
must be set on the Exchange server. Note that it will also reply to spam
messages.
