That is the error message when I boot up my HP. I was having problems. Any
key I hit repeats the same error message.

Previously before this, I was encountering some partitions issues. So I
mounted the HD as a slave drive to my other PC and deleted it under Disk
Management.

I mounted the drive back and the error message is what I get. The HD is
still recognized in the BIOS, but I am unable to boot the CD and install XP.

Any ideas on what I should do?

Does the cd boot on another PC? have you enabled boot from CD in the BIOS?

Yes, the CD will boot on another PC. Just not this HD that I've obviously
messed up. I do have enabled boot from CD in the BIOS. Still, nothing
happens but that same error message.

Why did you delete it from Disk Management?
You did this while it was a slave in the other computer?
Enable boot from CD in BIOS (like Paul said).

I deleted from Disk Management because I'm a newbie and didn't know what I
was doing.

Yes, I deleted while in slave in the other computer.

I enabled boot from CD in BIOS and the computer still will not boot off CD.

Did your BIOS prompt you to press any key or something to boot from CD?
IS CDROM first boot device in BIOS?

I''m from Illinois. I hope I helped you. Good Luck.

Does BIOS recognize your CDROM when booting up?
Check and reseat power and ribbon cable.
Do you have more than one CD/DVDROM installed?
If so, can you swap CD drives?
What is your hardware configuration?
Pri master, Pri slave, Sec master, Sec slave
Doesn't make sense that can't boot to CD!

It seems like the BIOS does not recognize the CDROM when booting up. The
ribbon and cables are fine.

Hardware config is:

Primary master: 12 gig HD
Secondary is CD ROM
3 1/2 floppy last

Ryan,

Are you indicating that this is what your BIOS looks like:

Hardware config is:

Primary master: 12 gig HD
Secondary is CD ROM
3 1/2 floppy last

If this is the case, you must have CD ROM as the first device for the system
to boot from the CD. Highlight the first boot device and then change the
option to CDROM using the page up/page down keys or you may get a drop down
menu and then use the arrow keys. Make sure you save the changes before you
exit BIOS.

You hardware configuration is "physically" installed with:
Primary Master : 12 gig HDD
Secondary Master: CDROM
etc

What does BIOS show when you boot up?
Does it show the CDROM?
Hit the "Pause Break" key during boot up to pause screen.
Hit "Space Bar" to release.

You don't have option of another CDROM?

Just wanted to say all is fixed after realizing that the headers were not
configured back to master after swapping the drive.

Do you mean the jumpers (pins) on the drive.
If you dont use the proper terms no-one knows what yer talking about.
