No, or wrong, icons in quick launch toolbar and start menu.

Hi everyone,

can somebody please help me with the following problem?!

From one day to another all my icons in the quick launch
toolbar and the start menu where gone! When I move my
mouse pointer above a quick launch button, the little
square appears, so the buttons becomes active, and also
the tooltip text comes alive. The button does exactly the
same as it did before and starts for instance Internet
Explorer. Also all my icons in the start menu packed their
bags and went elsewhere. Other icons, for example the red
circle with the white cross, appear at several places of
the start menu.

I already ran service pack 4 for WIN2000 and the newest
update for Internet Explorer. I spent days on searching
the knowledge base, but without any satisfying results.

Can you please help me out here?

Try downloading TweakUI (a power toy control panel). It has a feature
called "Repair" that will repair icons.

This sounds like a registry corruption problem. You might also try
using a registry repair utility such as Norton WinDoctor (part of
Norton Systemworks). It can usually fix such things (and then some).
