No Network Places

Hi,

I wonder if anyone could help me out on this one before I loose the
last of my grey hairs:

I have 3 computers connected via a SOHO switch which also connects to
the Internet via an ADSL router.

The problem is this:
On one (let's cal it PC #1) out of the 3 computers (all Win XP) I have
no objects in "My Network Places". (It can't even see itself!)
Nor can I get a result from searching a computer name.
Nor can I write a computer name or an IP address in the address line.

This of course means that I can't share files/folders etc. - and this
is the real problem ;-(

But:
The other 2 computers can see PC #1 (and each other) in "My Network
Places" - and access files etc.
PC #1 can see the 2 others from "net view" (Command prompt)
And all 3 have fine access to the Internet.
And all 3 can ping each other.
There are shared objects on all 3 computers.
Firewall has been disabled on all 3.

Why can't PC #1 see the others in "my Network Places", when it can see
them from "net view"???

Any ideas?
TIA,

Greetings Jørn Andersen,

Remove all personal firewalls while troubleshooting.
Disable XP's firewall on local area networks. It is only
intended for direct connections to the Internet. Make
sure each machine has the same workgroup name (default
MSHOME in XP). Each machine must have the same subnet
mask of 255.255.255.0. If the subnet mask are different,
the machines are on different networks.

Hi Eric,
Thanks for your reply.
However, nothing of what you wrote was of much help :(
* Firewall was already diabled (as I wrote)
* Workgroup name *is* the same - which I didn't write anything about.
But even if they were different I would still expect *some* objects in
the "My Network Places" window - in that case just different workgroup
names.
* The machines do have the same subnet (the setup comes from the same
DHCP server).

So what remains is this, I think:
Why can't PC #1 see the others in "My Network Places",
when it can see them from "net view"???

- or maybe rather:
Why can't PC #1 see anything in "My Network Places" - not even
itself??

Cheers - and still hoping for help,
