just got a laptop as well, internet connection sharing
works fine but i cannot browse my network from laptop or
to laptop from other pc's.it shows the presence of my
main machine in the netwrk nbrhd but i am unable to
access any data. all machines are running XP home sp1.
all ip addresses have been set accordingly.pleeeeeeeeeese
someone help me to find what to configure to enable my
network.
thanks for your time

Some things to check;
each pc has a user account setup
they are using the same protocol
They are in the same workgroup

all machines are in the same workgroup and tcp/ip
settings are all correct as far as i know. I can identify
all machines from each other but when i try to access the
laptop from either other machine or vice versa it won't
allow access.ics works perfectly. i can ping main pc from
laptop but get no response when i ping FROM laptop to
main pc

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/ic_firewall.htm

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/network_protocols.htm

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
Details here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)
