From time to time I like to check up on how the various space probes
are doing, and I'd really like to check
out the Visible Earth pages, but I can't. I was in the habit of doing
so, but a few months ago I lost the ability
to connect to any NASA site. I doubt it's my equipment, because my XP
computer and high speed
connection work fine. I get a Server Not Found message. Mystifying.

How are you connecting to the site? If using an internet shortcut that
points to a page that was moved and if there was no "redirect" placed on
the nasa website you would not be able to connect.

I just tried google for "nasa visible earth" and got this link:
http://visibleearth.nasa.gov/

I have a pretty fast computer and connection but the site loaded a bit on
the slow side. Yet it did appear.

If your internet shortcut is broken, delete it. Visit your favorite visible
earth page and then create a new "favorite" or use "Create Shortcut" on the
right click menu to send an internet shortcut to the desktop.

Thanks for the suggestion. I deleted any bookmark links in both
firefox and IE and it wouldn't connect. I tried your link and it
wouldn't connect. Strange indeed.

Odd. I just opened IE6, typed in www.nasa.gov and behold!, the NASA
web site came up just fine. 2/1/2007 @ 23:56 MST

Check C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc for a file named HOSTS with no
extension. (Not Hosts.sam)
Make sure Windows is set to show hidden files and folders and is NOT set to
hide extensions for known file types.
If HOSTS exists, rename it to HOSTS.OLD
Reboot an try again.

Or, In a Cmd window, enter
ipconfig /flushdns
then clear your TIF also, and re-boot.

I followed your instructions, still no Nasa.gov. Maybe after I
finally get my back taxes paid....
