SOme avis in ppt are not playing - after doing a lot of
reading i tried to play them by using

mplayer.exe" or "mplay32.exe" for WinNT

HOWEVER when i type these files into a "run" command,
windows cannot find them. What do I do now??

Thanks

Make sure that you didn't make a typo or include the quotes. If it still
doesn't work, check in Windows Explorer for C:\WINDOWS\system32\mplay32.exe.
That's most likely where the file is stored on a Win XP system. When you
find it, double click on it to run it.

However, the other possibility is that the files that don't play require a
codec that is not installed on your system. See
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm for more
information.

Thank you for your reply

OK so I found mplay32

I can play an avi file using it, but then if i try to
play it in powerpoint, I can see the first frame (as if
its an image) but as soon as i try to play it by either
right click, play movie OR from within slideshow mode, it
goes black.

HELP please

ps, if i go to the prperties of the movie it tells me it
is compressed with teh cinepak codec (which i would
imagine is pretty standard .......i have all the updates
for media player 9)

Even more info:

I have the cinepak codec on my machine. I updated it to
be sure. VIa control panel my i am pretty sure it is
working properly.

Still ppt will not play my movie.
If i change the extension to mpg it will work BUT what a
hassle to try and find each linked avi and change its
extension

I have gone to teh registry and it looks as if the
entries in MCI settings match what they should. There
are a few extra entries but no doubles.

I am trying, but i feel as if i'm drowning.

WHY o why wont it play!!

A website suggested decreasing my hardware acceleration.
I dont know what exaclty that is, but when i did it, the
movie worked.
Do i have to keep my harware aceleration decelerated???
Waht am i talking about.

Advice for a novice PLEASE

Yes, and no... (possibly my favorite answer)

Yes, if you want to use PowerPoint to display you AVI files, I'd recommend
keeping what is working.

No, if you want to run a Super Blast Bunny 3D game (or equivalent) that
requires full video acceleration, then you can adjust the setting, with the
understanding you may need to change it back for PowerPoint to work.
