I am having a weird problem with two of my home PCs here, both with Genuine
XP, always worked fine. Problem showed two days ago. Someone suggested to do
System Restore, but although I tried the 3 or 4 proposed dates, all I get is
''Windoes cannot restore to the xxxx date''.... So not an option.
One of these PCs is dual-boot : Win XP Pro 32bit SP2 and Vista 64bit Home
Premium. Pls understand this: we are talking here about no change, same
physical connection. Get this: if I boot under Vista, I can access internet
with no problem. The same PC under Win XP SP2 (was always OK before) can no
longer access internet. It seems to see LAN, but can't go to the web.
Must add that 3 other computer : a MAC, a LINUX and another XP all access
web.
So: as one can conclude by elimination: there seems to be no problem with
the modem, nor the router, nor any physical (cabling) connection.
I have also tried to disable Windows Firewall, redo a new internet
connection, try it as simple as possible (just get the always on connection
!...).
Really frustrating as these two machines were working fine (connectiong to
web) 2 days ago, but I cannot restore! (Another thing: both are configured to
get automatic Windows updates), and one last thing: both started to prompt
that Norton Anti-Virus subscription is coming soon to an end (mid-November) -
was wondering if this could have triggered anything which is why I disabled
firewall.
Any other idea I could try ?
Thanks in advance,
Rob
