No more Google Groups posts to UseNet?

How about that. Google Groups has chosen to filter itself out of
UseNet. Unfortunately, apparently they are also continuing to mess
up the UseNet archive. As far as I can tell, the new Google public
UseNet archive display has no showing of the left-hand author pane
(the list of authors on the left that you see in the normal UseNet
client/program).

I have never filtered Google Groups posts, I do content-based
filtering only, but if Google Groups wants to filter itself, no
problem here. Umm, unless that means that they are preventing our
regular UseNet posts from getting into the archive.

I'm still running the "old" Google Groups here, and the tree view
on the left is still available.

You can tell it's the old version, because of the "The old Google
Groups will be going away soon" banner at the top of the page.

And yes, Google is partitioned again, like it was a month ago or so.

No posts from Google Groups go to USENET (partition).

Posts from USENET go to Google Groups (as of ten minutes ago).

I haven't complained yet. If you want to drop Google a line,
try "groups-support at google dot com". I wasted my time the
last time, sending them an email to that address, and now
it's someone else's turn to send them an email.

I'd hate to see Google running a "cloud" service everyone
relied upon, if Google Groups is any indication of how
much they care about their services!

I think that they want to try and push everyone onto crap like
Facebook or whatever substute
google has or is cooking up (maybe their new groups, which I have not
used yet).

FB IMHO is not good or the sort of things we do on usenet - especially
tech and similar groups.
Just no substitute

Because everyone's "friends" from every activity are all grouped
around each person, you could
miss or never ever see posts unless you were "friends" with the right
people, and depending on
who they want to allow to see their posts - assuming there is a group
to start with, and you can find it.

I will stick with this thanks, even if its necessary to go to a usenet
server. (can anyone suggest one?)

nntp.aioe.org
