No more cheap VS2002-2003 upgrades?

I have been out of the Visual Studio loop for a while. I have the 2002
version of VS Professional and came across a couple of web pages talking
about a $29 developer upgrade to the 2003 version, all of which pointed to
http://msdn.microsoft.com/howtobuy/ for details. When I went to that page,
however, I did not find any indication of a $29 offer. I assume then that
if I want to upgrade now I would have to pay several hundred dollars (which
means that, in my case, it's not going to happen -- I'd just have to keep
using 2002) -- correct?

To the best of my knowledge you are correct. The $29 offer was something
that they put forward back when 2003 first was released. The idea here
was that 2002 had only been out a short time but they really wanted to
get everyone to upgrade. The upgrade price was only good for a few
months then it went back to full boat. Sorry the news isn't better. If
the full upgrade price is too much for you now, you may want to start
saving up to upgrade to 2005 when it comes out, it will be worth the
price tag.

That offer was only valid from end of April 2003 to end of
September 2003.

Current alternative:
Order the .NET 2.0 Express Beta now for the price of
shipping
http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/vs2005/get/order/

or simply download it:

Visual Studio 2005 Express Beta Products
http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/express/

Later the .NET 2005 release version may then be worth the
price of admittance. Though I doubt that there will be
anything like that cheap .NET 2003 upgrade.
