No Microsoft Antispyware Icon in System Tray-Antivirus Conflict?

I have installed MS Antispyware and initally get the icon to appear in the
system tray. However upon restart, the icon does not reappear. I assume
this means that it is not active. I am running BitDefender9 Standard
antivirus and if I disable it, and uninstall/reinstall MS Antispyware the
icon appears in the tray and will stay there after I restart the computer.
If I reactivate the antivirus program I will lose the antispyware icon on the
next restart. How can I get my antivirus program and Microsoft Antispyware
to work together?

Hello Jim,

try this:

Goto: Start/Control Panel/Add-Remove programs/MSAS
then click on support info!!!
Then click on repair!

If that wont work then it is really a XP problem,

I give a workaround for all the missing things in the systray:
Go to:
C:\Windows\system32\
and look for systray.exe, right click on it and make a shortcut
from it, then move the shortcut to the common startup folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\StartMenu\Programs\Startup\

Restart the computer.

Tom, Thank you for your reply. I will give it a try and let yu know how it
works. I am out for the evening but will try it when I return.

Tom, I tried the repair from the add/remove panel and the icon reappeared in
the system tray. However when I restart it does not reinstall in the system
tray. I also tried your suggested work-around by placing a shortcut from the
systray exec stub into the startup folder, but unfortunately that didn't seem
to do anything. Any other ideas?

Hello Jim,

ok this trick did it for me, I found a other won.
From Francesco Saverio Ostuni:
Go to My Network Places and on the left pane and choose to hide UPnP
devices.

This will do the trick.

Good evening Tom,
Bingo! It worked! After making the change to hide networked UPnP devices
and then going back again to repair MSAS, the icon appeared. It starts on
the system tray after repeated computer shut downs and restarts. Thank you
very much for the excellent help that you gave me and your persistence to
stay with me until the problem was solved. I really appreciate it.
