no mail, no hotmail, no net pasport -- !!opera works!!

Just installed XP-home on a another computer on out home LAN. Two other
work perfectly but the only thing available on the new machine is IE.
Have tried "security settings" enabling cookies, everything. The message is
constantly THIS PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED over and over again - even when
trying Hotmail through IE any suggestions. MSN wont even connect - this is
frustrating. Any suggestions?

On a home LAN....

How is the "Home LAN" conected to the Internet?
Is the computer obtaining an IP on the "Home LAN" -> One that can access the
Internet?
